Course: Main Course

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Large Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds chicken breasts (680 grams), 3 chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 mL)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning (15 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (5 grams)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (2.5 grams)

Instructions

  • Start by placing the chicken breasts in a bowl or zip-close bag. Ensure they are all together to absorb the flavors properly.
  • Pour in the olive oil and toss the chicken to coat it completely. The chicken should feel slick and shiny for the seasoning to stick well.
  • Sprinkle on the lemon pepper seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Ensure the chicken is evenly coated to avoid bland bites.
  • Allow the seasoned chicken to marinate for at least 15 minutes. This enhances the flavor, but do not leave it too long to avoid excessive saltiness.
  • While the chicken is marinating, preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees F (199 degrees C). A hot air fryer locks in moisture and helps achieve a crispy exterior.
  • Carefully place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring space around each piece for even cooking. Overcrowding may cause the chicken to become rubbery.
  • Air fry for about 20 minutes, checking for a golden brown color and ensuring it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Monitor closely to prevent overcooking, which can dry out the chicken.
  • Once cooked, let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute for a more tender bite.

Notes

Storage Tips: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Expert Tips: To avoid dry chicken, always check that it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F and remove promptly. For better seasoning adhesion, marinate the chicken for at least an hour. Ensure chicken pieces are of even size to prevent a rubbery texture, and avoid overcrowding in the fryer.
Reheating Instructions: Reheat in the air fryer at 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) for about 5 minutes, or until warmed through.
Serving Suggestions: Pair with a fresh garden salad, serve with roasted vegetables, or enjoy alongside cauliflower rice. A creamy dipping sauce also complements this dish well.
Recipe Variations: For added flavor, consider adding paprika for a smoky taste, mixing in fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary, or using lime instead of lemon for a different citrus note.
Ingredient Notes: Choose chicken breasts that are uniform in size for even cooking. For a different taste profile, you can substitute the lemon pepper seasoning with other spice blends as desired.
