Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Breasts Recipe
Quick and easy air fryer method for cooking frozen chicken breasts while retaining moisture and flavor.
Course: Main Course

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Instant-read thermometer
  • Small bowl
  • Brush

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen uncooked chicken breasts about 1.5 pounds total
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Start by placing the frozen chicken breasts in a bowl. You should leave them as-is, no thawing needed. This helps maintain their moisture during cooking. Just make sure they are not stacked on top of each other to avoid uneven cooking.
  • Drizzle the avocado oil over the chicken, letting it coat each breast. You will notice a nice sheen forming on the surface, which helps the seasonings stick. Be careful not to overdo it; too much oil can make things greasy.
  • Sprinkle the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper evenly on both sides of the chicken. The aroma will be quite inviting! Just remember, if the chicken is too wet from oil, the spices may slide right off instead of sticking.
  • Turn on your air fryer and let it heat up for a bit. It will take just a few minutes, and you will hear it start humming. A properly heated air fryer is key for getting that crispy outside and juicy inside. Do not skip this step; starting with a cold air fryer can lead to longer cooking times.
  • Carefully lay the seasoned chicken in the air fryer basket, ensuring there is space in between. You will hear a satisfying sizzle when they hit the air fryer. Cooking them spaced out allows the hot air to circulate properly, but do not overcrowd; that could lead to uneven cooking.
  • After about 25 minutes, peek into your air fryer. The chicken should have a golden-brown crust, and you can test with a meat thermometer for perfect doneness. If it is undercooked, no worries, just pop it back in. It is better to check than to cut into it too early!
  • Once done, take the chicken out and let it rest for a few minutes. You will notice the juices pooling on the plate—this means it is retaining moisture. Just be patient, as cutting too soon lets those tasty juices escape.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Try to choose chicken breasts of similar size for even cooking.
Use aluminum foil in the air fryer for easier cleanup but make sure to leave space for proper airflow.
If chicken breasts are undercooked after 25 minutes, return them to the air fryer for 5-minute intervals until cooked through.
For better seasoning adhesion, apply your spices while the chicken is completely frozen; this helps them stick better.
If your chicken breasts tend to dry out, consider using a meat thermometer to check for doneness at 165 degrees F accurately.
