Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Meat thermometer

Ingredients

  • 650 g Chicken breast, cut in half horizontally (1.4 lb)
  • 6 tsp Paprika
  • 6 tsp Dark brown sugar
  • 4 tsp Garlic granules
  • 3 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Sea salt
  • ½ tsp Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Start by spreading paprika, dark brown sugar, garlic granules, dried oregano, sea salt, and black pepper over the chicken breasts. It should look vibrant and colorful. Be generous with the seasoning, as that is where the flavor is concentrated.
  • Turn on your air fryer to preheat for a few minutes. It is ready when you can feel some heat radiating from it. This step ensures the chicken cooks evenly and achieves a crispy exterior. Do not forget to spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking!
  • Place the seasoned chicken into the air fryer basket in a single layer. You want to hear a gentle sizzle when the chicken hits the basket. This indicates the Maillard reaction is underway, creating delicious caramelization. Avoid overcrowding the basket, as that may prevent proper cooking.
  • After about fifteen minutes, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken. It should read 165 degrees F. If it is still pink inside, let it cook a bit longer. It is crucial to ensure the chicken is fully cooked for safety.
  • Once cooked, allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before slicing. This resting period allows the juices to settle back in, keeping the chicken juicy and tender. Be patient, as slicing too soon can lead to dry bites!
  • Cut the chicken breasts into strips or halves to showcase the beautiful caramelized exterior. The aroma will be enticing! Serve warm and enjoy. When plating, aim for a tidy presentation for best visual appeal.

Notes

Store chicken in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. For freezing, ensure it hasn't been previously frozen and reheat to piping hot before serving. For quicker cooking, slice chicken breasts in half to allow them to cook evenly in less time. Ensure to coat the chicken thoroughly to avoid the coating falling off. To maintain moisture when reheating, add a splash of water or broth before warming in the microwave.
