Air Fryer Blackened Chicken Breast Recipe
Juicy and flavorful blackened chicken breast prepared in an air fryer, seasoned with a vibrant spice blend for a delicious meal.

Equipment

  • Air fryer Standard model
  • Tongs For handling chicken
  • Meat thermometer For checking doneness

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast Chicken type: boneless skinless
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil High-heat oil
  • ½ tsp salt Seasoning
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp cayenne Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp black pepper Seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp onion powder Seasoning
  • ½ tsp garlic powder Seasoning

Instructions

  • Start with your chicken breast and place it in a bowl. Ensure it is clean, as any bits left could affect the seasoning.
  • Drizzle avocado oil over the chicken and rub it to coat lightly. This helps the spices stick, so do not overdo the oil.
  • Sprinkle salt, Italian seasoning, cayenne, black pepper, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder all over the chicken. Ensure it is vibrantly covered in spices for best flavor.
  • Preheat your air fryer to the required temperature for a few minutes until it feels warm inside. This step ensures even cooking.
  • Place the seasoned chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cooking time should achieve a juicy inside and a slightly crunchy outside. Check for doneness to avoid overcooking.
  • Once cooked, remove the chicken and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute for a tender result.
  • After resting, slice the chicken into juicy pieces. Enjoy the vibrant colors and delicious aromas while considering creative side dish pairings.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For meal prep, freeze a meal for up to 3 months.
Ensure the chicken breasts do not overcook; remove them from the air fryer when they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. Allowing chicken to rest for 5 minutes after cooking retains juices, preventing dryness.
To reheat, use an air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5-7 minutes until heated through.
Serve over a bed of leafy greens for a light meal or slice and add to pasta or grain bowls for extra protein. Top with salsa or avocado for a fresh twist.
Use chicken cutlets, chicken thighs, or chicken tenderloins as a substitute for the boneless skinless chicken breast. Alternatively, you can opt for shrimp or fish for blackening. Consider adding lime zest to the seasoning for a citrus twist.
